Here some pictures from a recent "Flashlight Friday" in Mrs. Russell’s 1st grade class at the South School! The students worked in partners to go on a digraph hunt using their flashlights. It was a fun review activity on a dark and dreary day!

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. David Fisher, retired South Elementary School principal, on November 5, 2022 at the age of 77. Dr. Fisher was the principal at the South School for 30 years until his retirement in 2004. As his obituary notes, during that time he helped guide the education and support the families of 5,000 children. After his retirement, he served on the Stoughton School Committee. He also helped establish an annual fundraiser for the food pantries in Stoughton. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and former South School colleagues and students. Third graders in Mrs. Johnson's class at the South School recently presented their "digital brown bag autobiographies." Students uploaded photos of five things that were special to them (people, pets, places, hobbies, favorite items, etc.) to share with their classmates so they could learn a little bit more about each other during the first month of school.

South School Kindergarten students had a great first day and are enjoying the start of the school year!

Second grade students in Mrs. DeMayo's class at the South School were given a challenge on the first day of school. They had to work together in small groups and stack cups to form a pyramid...but there was a twist - the cups spelled out a special message and had to be placed in a certain order. Take a look at the photos to see how each group did!

Here are some South School second graders enjoying outdoor recess on the first day of school! The weather was perfect outside!

Here is a look at some nice artwork on display at the South School! Mrs. Anello's 2nd grade artists at the South recently learned about the Lunar New Year/Chinese New Year. Since 2022 is the Year of the Tiger, the students created a symmetrical tiger by folding a piece of white paper in half and drew "half" of the animal with oil pastel on one side of the paper. They folded the paper and rubbed the back of the paper so the oil pastel transferred to the other side creating a symmetrical image. Then students added some color with liquid watercolor paints. Finally, the students brainstormed about goals they had for this year and wrote those words around their tigers, with many choosing South School S.H.A.R.K. values - safe, hardworking, accountable, respectful, and kind.
