PowerSchool

Update sent January 16, 2025:

Stoughton Public Schools wants to provide our families and staff an update on the PowerSchool data breach we told you about last week. The Stoughton Public Schools IT team has had several conversations with PowerSchool, the provider of our student information system, as the district attempts to learn more about this incident. The district is still awaiting more information from PowerSchool, including the results of an investigative report from CrowdStrike, a third-party cyber security firm.

We are continuing to monitor this incident very closely. Stoughton Public Schools takes the privacy of all student and staff information very seriously and expects our vendors to do the same. The district will provide further updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, PowerSchool has posted answers to some frequently asked questions about this data breach that may be helpful.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Original message sent January 8, 2025:

On the afternoon of January 8th, Stoughton Public Schools was informed about a nationwide cybersecurity data breach in December involving our student information system provider, PowerSchool. Our IT staff has confirmed that SPS student and staff information has been compromised, along with potentially millions of other PowerSchool users across the country.

This news, and the delay in which it was reported to us, is extremely concerning. PowerSchool held a webinar with impacted districts this afternoon and we are currently awaiting more information from PowerSchool about this incident.

As we gather more information, we will be sure to update the community.

Thank you.
